Domestic Abuse: You Don't Deserve it!

No one goes into a relationship thinking or desiring they are going to be abused from the person who claims they “love you.” Unfortunately though, many women wind up in these situations and it starts gradually in most cases. Usually with psychological and emotional control, manipulation and guilt tripping, then moves to more drastic measures which involve physical and sexual abuse.

Freedom Therapy - domestic abuse

Therapy can be a good way to help you walk alongside someone who wants what is best for you. A certified mental health professional can help equip you with tools and strategies for how to cope with the trauma associated with the abuse you have endured and to heal from the internal pain you are experiencing. Trying to do it alone can be very hard and finding unhealthy ways to cope with the pain is more likely to occur. Being able to share with someone who cares about your well-being will help you to develop healthy coping strategies. It will also help you to truly realize you are not deserving of the treatment you have undergone.

No one goes into a relationship thinking one day they will be abused. It forms overtime in a way to cope with the internal pain you are experiencing.

Examples of domestic abuse may include (but are limited to) the following:

  • Aggression (pushing, slapping, punching, kicking, spitting, holding down, blocking doorways)
  • Bullying Behaviours
  • Name-Calling
  • Put-Downs
  • Sexual Assault
  • Threats
  • Shouting
  • Weapons
